Electrolysis involves the insertion of a fine probe into a hair follicle followed by the release of a small amount of electrical current.  The current acts to destroy the regenerative hair cells that reside in the lower portion of the follicle, causing permanent removal of the hair over time. A series of treatments is necessary to achieve permanent hair removal and it should be noted that electrolysis has proven to be effective for all hair types. In addition, electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal treatment recognized by both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Medical Association (AMA).
